The Project
James Lockyer Associates were contacted by Cornwall Housing after a small sinkhole opened up in the front garden of one of their properties. A search of historic maps revealed a well in this area dating from the late 1800’s. The depth of the well was probed and found to be just over 6 metres deep.
Working with a contractor appointed by the Council, the garden was excavated with a mini-digger to find the limits of the well, which were found to extend under the pathway and the entrance porch to the property.
A reinforced concrete slab was designed and constructed to cap the well and the area beneath the path and porch was underpinned to ensure stability.
Within two weeks of our engagement on the project, the works were complete and the garden had been reinstated.
