The Project

Mariners Garden is owned and maintained by Looe Town Council as a memorial to Mariners and Fishermen.  The west boundary of the garden is formed by a wall, an extension to the main wall of Buller Quay.

A significant bulge in the quay wall had developed with some large stones fallen out and it was feared the wall would collapse.  With limited information on it’s existing construction and scope for investigation due to it’s fragile nature, and a retaining height in excess of four metres, JLA devised a comprehensive repair scheme to minimise disruption to the existing wall.  Once works commenced, the structure of the wall was confirmed and the repair scheme amended accordingly.

The initial scheme to minimise disruption to the wall, including buttressing scaffolding in the river, the amended design requiring more work to be carried out at periods of low tide together presented a challenging project.
