Sustainable Construction
The Project
Located on a rocky outcrop at the mouth of Polperro harbour, the Grade II listed Net Loft is often hit by waves in stormy conditions. However, in February 2014, a storm caused partial collapse to the already bulging rear gable wall and damaged the slate roof.
Following listed building consent, works were underway to strengthen and point the external walls, and re-clad the roof to make the building watertight. Further works were carried out internally to the windows and the addition of lighting to make the building safe for public access. Photovoltaic panels were fitted to the roof to make the building sustainable. A feasibility study was also carried out to install a composting WC.
