The Project
Working with local architects, James Lockyer Associates developed a structural solution to develop this existing bungalow to provide an additional storey. The proposed two storey structure was developed with open plan living accommodation on the first floor and bedrooms on the ground floor taking advantage of the panoramic views across and down the valley.
The original footprint of the building was maintained and investigations carried out to confirm the suitability of existing foundations.
The views were capitalised upon with the creation of extensive picture windows at first floor level which, together with the timber framing and large open plan living area, challenged the structural concept. Structural steel framing supporting the zinc finished gull wing roof and providing stability to the timber frame were concealed within the structure.
